Let’s Get Started!

Never Enough

I’m captivated by stories.

Addicted to reading.

Obsessed with books.

Nothing against libraries… They provide a valuable service. But, I’m possessive and a completionist by nature when it comes to books. If I read it, I want to keep it. If the book is part of a series, well, I’ve got to read the rest! Incidentally, I’ve learned a new term and discovered that I suffer from a condition at the same time this past summer. Tsundoku: the art of buying books and never reading them. But, more on that later…

What I Wish Out Of Life

If I could make a living reading my favorite books 24/7 (who needs sleep and food anyway?), I would do it in an instant! My family may hate me (no, they don’t hate me), or at least be all growly about not seeing me for eons at a time, but I would a happy, happy woman!

If I love the book, I get so attached to the characters in the stories, I become obsessed. I don’t want to let them go. I go back again and again. I rejoice when I discover a bonus scene or an extended epilogue penned by an author. And, I become ecstatic—absolutely ecstatic—when others also love the characters so much that the authors sometimes offer updates on the characters in the subscriber newsletters. (Yes, my obsession leads me to sign-up for all newsletters and news alerts from my favourite authors! I’m a junkie, and I do not plan on getting help. You can deal with it, or not—whatever makes you happy.)

Tsundoku Artist

So, my tsundoku condition… I would not say never reading them. But, my book shelves (both physical and digital) are overflowing with the books I WANT to read. That does not stop me, though, from getting more. Every day I scout Amazon for deals, and happily get lost down a rabbit hole of recommendations to discover new books and promptly add these to my ever expanding Wish List.

Every so often, my husband will ask, “When are you going to read all these?” You can imagine my answer, right? (Hint: there isn’t one that won’t bring on pouty lips and won’t make me feel bad for “ignoring” my husband and son.) Sigh… I just have to do that thing they keep telling us on the airplanes at takeoff… “If you are travelling alone with small children, now is the time to decide which one is your favourite.” Yeahhhhhh, prioritizing sucks!

Heartfelt Thanks

Anyway, this is my first blog—ever—and I wanted to take the time to properly thank all the authors out there whose stories captivate, entertain, and touch readers like me. The worlds and characters you create from your ideas, your imagination… Your ability to write these stories in a way that makes one to want to lose themselves within… (I’m lost for words here, so I will simply say…) Your stories make me laugh, they make me cry, they excite and thrill me, but above all else, they make me want MORE! Your talents are amazing! You are amazing! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Why Am I Here?

I wanted to start this blog with a personal reflection on the literature that I find so enjoyable and entertaining. Because I love reading so much, I wanted to somehow be involved and help bring this feeling to others. I aim to do this by leveraging my copy editing and proofreading skills, my attention to detail, and my desire to work in collaboration with authors to help them achieve success with their books. Let’s get started!
